Bible Study Resource

Wednesday, 9 July 2008 04:33 by Charles
If you would like to study the Bible on line, an excellent resource is www.christiancourses.com  You can get a syllabus on many different Bible topics such as an overview of the Old or New Testament or you can watch a video.  You can even take check up tests to see how much information you retained.  Some of the teaching is a little boring but the content is excellent and theologically sound.  This is a great reasuorce for anyone who wants to learn more about the Word of God.

Bible Study Tools for Dummies (like me)

Wednesday, 5 March 2008 12:14 by Charles

Have you ever wanted to find a verse in the Bible but you only knew a few words of the verse?  We all have done that at some time.  Well, here’s a great resource www.biblegateway.com You can type in a word or words and you see all the verses in the Bible that have those words in them.  You also can access some good Bible commentaries and Bible studies through this site.

Another great site for daily devotions and other Bible related information is www.rbc.org  One of my favorite parts of this site is under the Bible Study heading and is called Answers to Tough Questions.

www.studylight.org is another great site for information regarding the Bible.  At this site you can actually do a word study to find out the Greek and Hebrew text of a particular passage.

Why I Believe and The Genesis Record

Saturday, 16 February 2008 05:56 by Charles

I am teaching a four week course at FOTP called Christianity 101.  I taught the course in a longer format at First Baptist Church Euless for 10 years.  Many people have the same experience I had when I first became a Christ follower.  I felt like everyone else had been in Advanced Christianity and I had never been in Christianity 101.  So I started a course to answer questions such as who wrote the Bible, did men really live to be 900 years old, was there really a world wide flood, and what about evolution verses creation.

Much of what I teach in the class is based on the book, Why I Believe by D. James Kennedy.  It is one of my all time favorite books.  Dr. Kennedy who was the pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Coral Ridge wrote the book after listening to an atheist on a radio talk show who was chewing up Christians and spitting them out.  Dr. Kennedy realized that most Christians did not know that there was solid historical and scientific evidence for believing in the Bible, God, Heaven and Hell. This is not a technical book and while it was first published years ago it is still full of great information that will strengthen your faith if you are a Christ follower and make you seriously consider becoming a Christ follower if you are not already.

One of the other books I used for the basis of the course was The Genesis Record by Dr. Henry Morris.  This is another of my favorites.  It is a very user friendly commentary on the book of Genesis.  I have not read it from cover to cover but the first few chapters on creation are priceless.  Dr. Morris is a creationist scientist.  While the book was first published in 1976 it is still a very rich resource for those who want to know more about some of the more challenging aspects of creation.

These two books are two of my favorites.  I have reread parts of these books many times and have used them often as a source of information for speaking and teaching purposes.
