FOTP Grapevine and Christianity 101

Saturday, 23 August 2008 09:13 by Charles

We will launch our week to week services at FOTP Grapevine on Sunday, September 7 at 10:30.  We meet at Faith Christian School located at 730 E. Worth Street in Grapevine.

Our 2 preview services have confirmed the need we perceived for a new church in the area.  We have found many people who want to be a part of a church where they can truly make a difference.

I will be teaching Christianity 101 on Wednesday nights 7-8:15 starting on September 17.  This four week class is designed for anyone who has ever pondered the following questions:

  • Who wrote the Bible?
  • How do we know it is true?
  • Did men really live to be 900 year old?
  • Was there actually a world wide flood?
  • Did God create human life or did we evolve from a lower form of life?

I have taught this class to over 1000 people in the last 10 years.  The material is practical and easy to grasp.  Many people have had some of their most perplexing questions answered and as a result many lives have been transformed.

Please let me know ( charlesthornton@fellowshipoftheparks.com )if you plan on attending so that we can make sure to have adequate seating and material.  Christianity 101 will meet at 800 Ira E. Woods Ave. (Brown Chiropractic Center) in Grapevine.

Shocking! Here is a lesson that you should add to "your" Christianity 101 curriculum.

It is unbelievable that Fellowship of the Parks - a church that was initially sponsored by First Baptist Church Euless - is allowing Charles Thornton - a disgruntled former Euless staff member - to pastor this new effort in Grapevine (right down the street). You might want to revisit the previous comment link to Ed Young's Church Pirate video on You Tube. You obviously did not take it to heart.

For those that don't know - Charles was allowed to begin his ministry at Euless with no formal ministry training ( he still has no ministry degree!). He took a paycheck for about 2 decades from his Euless benefactor. Over that time, his ministry service had its ups and downs - including stabbing his senior pastor in the back.

After putting the knife in the old pastor's back - he thought he would be able to take over Euless - especially when the church could not get any competent pastor to consider coming on board with all the dirty politics that were going on at Euless.

When the church finally found another new pastor after a year plus of looking - Charles picked up his toys and left. Fellowship of the Parks immeidately put him on staff (FYI -Charles was the one that administrated the previous new church funding for Euless - which included the initial money to FOTP. FOTP's current pastor considered Charles his mentor and advocate at Euless). Does that sound fishy to anybody else? Now - FOTP is funding Charles in the shadows of his former church. That is a real No-No in ministry.

If you want to start a church - do it right - move a reasonable distance down the road. Stealing people from your previous benefactor and improperly leveraging First Baptist Euless' previous investment in Fellowship of the Parks is WRONG.

What a bad way to start a church... but not surprising.
