The Power of Positve Rituals - Good Habits

Monday, 10 March 2008 13:06 by Charles

In an earlier entry where I posted a review on the book The Power of Full Engagement, I shared information about the concept of positive rituals.  There are several that have impacted my life greatly.

One of those habits is memorizing scripture.  Now I have to admit I learned more scripture when I was a new Christian at the age of 26.  But I still memorize scripture and often review the ones I learned earlier.  This practice really transformed my life.

Romans 12:2 says “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

If we want to act differently, we must think differently.  Hiding God’s word in my heart has been a key part of that transformation process.  Many people want to know how to do it and I have used some memory techniques but for the most part I have just written scripture on an index card and repeated it until it was on the hard disk of my mind.  Then by reviewing those verses periodically they stay there.

The first scripture I ever memorized was Psalm 119:11 – “Your word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against you.”  I thought if there was ever anyone who needed to memorize God’s word it was me.
