Wild At Heart – Discovering the Secret of a Man’s Soul by John Eldredge helped me to see that there is so much more to being a man than the model of being a “nice guy’ that is communicated in so many Christian circles today.  Eldredge gives insight into the fact that every man has a longing for a battle to fight, and adventure to live and a beauty to rescue.  He is an avid outdoorsman which is the background for so much of what he shares in this book.

I read this book a few years ago.  My only regret is that I was not aware of the concepts when my son was younger.  It would have changed how I parented in the early years.  I did many things right but I would change some things as well.  Fortunately John inherited his mother’s spirit for adventure and trying new things. God knew all that and he overcame my weaknesses because John has turned out to be a great young man.  I am so very proud of him.
